from $0.00

Join Peter de Guzman’s Pangalay class on June 26 from 11:30am-3:30pm. Class is offered virtually and in-person at Kapwa Gardens.

When Peter de Guzman first read Ligaya Fernando Amilbangsa’s book on Pangalay as a teenager he was captivated with the details and vowed to meet the author someday. In 2005 Peter serendipitously met Tita Ligaya and started studying her technique - the Amilbangsa Instructional Method for Pangalay. For the next decade Peter continuously visited the Philippines to refine his technique in Pangalay and perform with the Alun Alun Dance Circle. Today, he feels blessed to share the fundamentals of Pangalay and the exquisite details found in the Amilbangsa Instructional Method. As the Artistic Director of Malaya Filipino American Dance Arts in Los Angeles, Peter’s focus is to delve deeper into the complex identity of Filipino/a/x- Americans and represent their movement aesthetics through dances such as the Pangalay, which visually connects the ancient with today.
