8/21 Pangalay Circle - Jacob Dominguez

from $0.00

Join Jacob Dominguez’s Pangalay class on August 21 from 11:30am-3:30pm. Class is offered virtually and in-person at Kapwa Gardens.

Jacob Walse-Dominguez is a queer migrant diasporic movement artist and traditional gong-chime musician bridging transnational histories and realities through cultural work. Previously the Founder and Executive Director of the NYC-based Filipinx group Sining Kapuluan, their Pansak and Pangalay lineage comes from Radzmina Tanjili, a Sama-Banguingui culture bearer, along with Yakan culture bearer Dhel Ahaddas and Tausug culture bearer Sitti Obeso. Through cultural immersion with teachers in Southeast Asia and consistent community work among the diasporic Filipinx community in the US, Jacob hopes to assist fellow Filipinx folks in weaving past and present towards a pre-Philippine, post-colonial identity. Focusing on colonial resistance and empowerment through cultural work, they hope to share knowledge between the homelands and diasporic communities of the Philippines.
